John Hoover began his role as the CEO Medical City Fort Worth this week. He has served as COO of the hospital since 2021 and was named interim CEO in May of this year. During that time, he played an important role in the hospital’s $30 million expansion project. He has held roles with Medical City’s parent company HCA Healthcare in Georgia, Kansas, and Colorado. Medical City Fort Worth is ranked among America’s 250 Best Hospitals and 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care by Healthgrades, and was awarded an “A” grade in the spring 2023 Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. Hoover follows former Medical City Fort Worth CEO Jyric Sims, who was appointed president of HCA’s West Florida Division.

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville’s $12.5 million renovation of the hospitals operating rooms is underway. The renovation will improve the equipment, space, and configuration of the operating rooms and processing areas that include large 4k monitors to view imaging, the combination of two rooms into one larger operating room while keeping the same number of operating areas at five.

The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth has earned a second $10 million endowment from the National Institutes of Health to research minority health and health disparities. This is the second time the university has received the John Lewis National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Endowment from the NIH. The endowment will support research, training new investigators, and community outreach focused on health disparities. The first award from NIH was received in 2017 and was the second-largest gift to HSC at the time.

Cook Children’s Health Care System has been named the second healthiest employer in Texas with 5,000 to 9,999 employees by the Healthiest Employer award program. Cook Children’s voluntary employee wellness program offers a 24/7 onsite fitness center, staffed with trainers who run exercise, yoga, and well-being classes and do health assessments. Last year, 47 percent of employees participated in a workout there. Financial planning, burnout, and healthy eating webinars as well as a wellness room are part of the plan too.
